Fees and Financial Aid
As a Transitional Year Student, you are eligible for financial aid such as OSAP and TYP grants. We encourage you to reach out and speak to our registrar if you have any questions about your personal finances or any of the above-mentioned funding sources. All the information on these three options is outlined below:
Fees
The approximate tuition cost of the Transitional Year Programme for the 2022-2023 year is:
- $6,700 for the full-time program (two terms)
Please note: there is no application fee to apply for our program.
TYP Grants
- TYP Entry Grants: New students to TYP that demonstrate need for financial support can apply and may receive entry grants – Amount Varies based on need. Applications open in August.
- TYP In-Year Grants: Students who are experiencing financial difficulties may apply for grant assistance using the online application during the academic year; September to March
- They are offered twice a year, around October and February. Please download the TYP grant form and submit it to typ.info@utoronto.ca. TYP grants take between 1.5 to 2 weeks to review and administer funding.
- TYP Merit Awards and Grants:
- Varies Academic based and community involvement recognitions are awarded at the annual TYP Graduation - June
- BMO Financial Group Access to Higher Education Awards- awarded to high achieving graduates of the Transitional Year Program who will continue their studies full-time at the University of Toronto
- TYP Alumni Grants
- TYP Students graduating from TYP receive the William Waters Graduation Award
- TYP Alumni in a Graduate program or professional level second-entry programs (i.e. Law, Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing) at UofT – can apply to Rona Abramovitch Award – awarded on the basis of financial need and available funds.
OSAP
As a Transitional Year Student, you may be eligible for the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP). Applications for OSAP can be made online at www.osap.gov.on.ca. Applying for financial assistance can be a lengthy process so it is important that you start the process early.
Please note: You should apply for OSAP before you know whether you have been accepted into TYP. You will know whether you are OSAP eligible and the approximate funding you may receive. However, you will not officially receive any OSAP funding of course unless you are accepted and officially registered in the program for September.
