The Transitional Year Programme stands in solidarity with the Iranian community members and those impacted by the unjust detainment and death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini and the horrific violence that followed against those in protest. We are outraged by the government's participation in the censorship of this violence and silencing of citizens they're meant to protect.  

We must continue to speak out against the oppression of women and other vulnerable communities in Iran and other parts of the world. The protection of human rights should never be a wavering issue, and we must stand strong as a global village to challenge any person or system threatening those values.

We acknowledge that this is an extremely difficult time for those who have ties to Iran and encourage students, faculty, and staff to reach out to adequate support on campus and/or beyond. We also welcome participation in any events that honour Mahsa Amini or bring attention to what is happening in Iran.
